Olshaniki Estate (Leningradskaya reg.) certainly possessed a number of advantages. It was bordered by woods and a natural brook has been flowing through it. Drainage ditches also looked more like a Medieval Castle moats. Hardscaping partly was made by construction workers. Designer’s attempt was to preserve the mystical atmosphere of “Castle in the woods” in maintaining banks of the stream and planting, and also in using dark as if aged wood for fences and bridge. Unfortunately, not all ideas were approved by the Customer. For example, wood was offered as a part of the paving for backyard path and for custom made garden lights, which were replaced with standart product. Front yard is designed in more traditional cottage garden style.
